Lunch@Ye Old Sun Inn, Colton

Stage 3 in the Yorkshire Tour is Ye Old Sun Inn.  We are meeting our friends in the north – Ebenezer and Florence.  Eb is a Rugby League fan, a very popular sport in these parts, and he is a diehard Huddersfield Giants supporter.  He is looking forward to the Giants match with the mighty Leeds Rhinos. The rest of us are looking forward to lunch!

Flo and Rock both tackle the Salmon which, when it arrives, is perfectly cooked and served with potatoes that are an unbelievable shade of purple.  I decide to try the Fish Pie with a Cheddar Cheese Crust and hand cut chips.  Eb makes a play for the most traditional of Yorkshire dishes…..Warmed Pork Pie and Mushy Peas.

The boys also get over the gain line with a proper Yorkshire pint (or two) of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord.

For dessert I select the Blackcurrant Meringue Pie while Eb backs the Chocolate Torte with a rugby ball-shaped serving of Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.

It is fantastic for me to get back in touch with Eb and Flo after several years and great for Rock to meet them for the first time.

Postscript: Eb is probably happy that Huddersfield drew against Leeds after being well behind at half-time but, not as happy as he would have been if the Rhinos had not scored a draw-saving penalty in the last few minutes.

Wade and Rock are a UK based couple who love good food and wildlife and love travelling to find it. Wade does most, but not all, of the writing and the photography. Rock shares the eating experience and tells Wade when planned posts fall short on sense or style or taste. In the opinion of Wade (and many of our friends) she is also a fabulous baker. WadeandRockandFood mainly consists of reviews of restaurants and pubs we have recently visited. WadeandRockandWildlife and WadeandRockandPlaces are mostly photoblogs.
