Rufus and Lani are in Cheltenham for the Jazz Festival – so we have arranged to swing by and meet them for Sunday lunch at the Montpelier Chapter House. Sunday lunch is a trad affair at most places and that is true at the Chapter House.
Roast Sirloin of Beef and Yorkshire Pudding, Stuffed Roast Loin of Pork with Roast Parsnips were both mainstream and standard. There was a distinct lack of improvisation by the kitchen.
The dessert session, on the other hand, was on a different scale – and much more upbeat. Bakewell Tart with a fusion of Vanilla Ice Cream and cherry, Lemon Cheesecake – great crumbly base – contrasting well with a cool Dark Chocolate Sorbet. The Caramel Pannacotta harmonised with a Toffee Sauce and a syncopated, zingy Mint Sorbet.
