Tonight I’m going to a Sufjan Stevens gig with Ilia, Brooke & Adam but, first I’m meeting Karla for lunch at Iberica, Farringdon. The restaurant is busy when I arrive with business people, groups of friends and couples all contributing to a fund of activity.
As you might expect from its name….Iberica does tapas. I benefit from Karla being able to speak Portuguese, she has a much better idea of what we are ordering than I have.
We decide to share: milhojas de escalivada of smoked & roasted aubergine & red peppers; potatoes with spicy brava; Ibérica’s Serrano ham croquettes; fresh mackerel with orange & saron escabeche; fried chorizo lollipops with pear alioli sauce; and “Fabada” puree with its own pancetta & vegetables in vinaigrette.
It is a relief to find that we are well endowed with food. All the dishes are good but the potatoes with spicy brava and the chorizo lollipops are particularly special. Eventually, however, it is a relief when the waiter clears away the dishes – we are rescued from looking at what we have been unable to finish. Hopefully, he can donate the remaining food to somewhere better than the bin.
We decide to finish with coffee and, without caring for the amount we have already eaten, today’s special….churros with chocolate dipping sauce. It is good to see that Iberica supports Action Against Hunger. Great venue, great company and the food wasn’t bad either!
