Lunch@The George at Alstonefield

We are on the road again. We decide to call in at The George in Alstonefield for lunch after reading on one of our mobile devices that it is in both Sawdays and the Good Food Guide. The SatNav guides us there – sometimes modern technology can be quite useful!

We share the chicken liver parfait served with plum chutney and toast. The parfait is divine and it is complemented perfectly by the plum chutney. If the main courses are as good as this – we are in for a real treat!

Rock decides to have the Scottish salmon and garden herb fishcake with poached hen’s egg, wilted spinach and sorrel sauce. I pick the corn-fed chicken, wrapped in pancetta and thyme, with a lemon & white wine risotto, balsamic roasted vine tomatoes and rocket pesto.

Both main courses are perfectly good but neither manage to reach the superb standard set by the parfait. We finish with a really decent coffee. Overall we had a good lunch but…..it is the parfait that will stick in my memory.
