The Ale House, Stroud

We have been wandering around the farmers’ market in Stroud, buying loads of interesting food items and now it’s approaching lunchtime. The Ale House in Stroud is a great place for beer and also does food… so that is where we are heading.

We love the fact that the Ale House always has a wide range of beers on tap and you can order a pint made up of three different ales served in third pint glasses. I make a careful note of the beers we order for blogging purposes. Unfortunately, this note is left on the table of the Ale House and I have a memory like a sieve!

One of the beers is Hophead by the Dark Star Brewing Company. It is a full flavoured golden pale ale, slightly hoppy with notes of elderflower and it is one of three regular beers here. The range is always supplemented by 6 guest ales.

For lunch Rock and I share the chicken with Ras El Hanout. There are huge pieces of chicken, loads of rice and a powerful hot and sour sauce. In fact, after a few mouthfuls, it is clear that the sauce is just too aggressive for our palates.

If you love trying new beers, this is a great place to visit. By all means try the food but… here it will always play second fiddle to the beer.

Wade and Rock are a UK based couple who love good food and wildlife and love travelling to find it. Wade does most, but not all, of the writing and the photography. Rock shares the eating experience and tells Wade when planned posts fall short on sense or style or taste. In the opinion of Wade (and many of our friends) she is also a fabulous baker. WadeandRockandFood mainly consists of reviews of restaurants and pubs we have recently visited. WadeandRockandWildlife and WadeandRockandPlaces are mostly photoblogs.
