Lunch @ Turtle Bay, Cheltenham

Today we are going to the Audrey Hepburn Portraits exhibition at the Cheltenham Art Gallery. First though we need food and, while we cannot manage breakfast at Tiffanys, we can do lunch at Turtle Bay. We are not big fans of restaurant chains – but Turtle Bay has a decent reputation for Caribbean food and we are in the mood to try something different.

The excitement of new tastes begins immediately when our drinks arrive. I have chosen the Jamaica Pale Ale while my fair lady is trying the home-made limeade. The limeade is properly sour and nothing like the pop charade that comes from a can! Before the food arrives I order another appropriate beer – West Indies Porter – from the green mansions of Guinness. It is fabulous! Katie is serving us today and she is doing a good job.

Rock decides to try the jerk salmon – a fillet glazed with jerk spice, salad and sweet potato fries. I am always keen for a new experience and ask for the goat curry. Rock thinks she may be in for some sort of Roman holiday, but I’m not so sure.

Rock is not overexcited by her salmon but loves her sweet potato fries. I am really enjoying the curry – it is hot and full of caribbean flavours. I ask Rock if she wants to try some goat….she pulls a funny face.

Now it is time for some love in the afternoon with portraits of Audrey. We may return to Turtle Bay, but we think it may be an even better place if you wait until dark!

Wade and Rock are a UK based couple who love good food and wildlife and love travelling to find it. Wade does most, but not all, of the writing and the photography. Rock shares the eating experience and tells Wade when planned posts fall short on sense or style or taste. In the opinion of Wade (and many of our friends) she is also a fabulous baker. WadeandRockandFood mainly consists of reviews of restaurants and pubs we have recently visited. WadeandRockandWildlife and WadeandRockandPlaces are mostly photoblogs.
