Lunch@Perkins Bar & Bistro, Plumtree

First day of a road trip round the north of England and, on the way north, we call in at Perkins Bar & Bistro in Plumtree. We are rather late for lunch but impressed that they still offer us a reasonable range of dishes.

I feel unable to resist a pint of Preservation, a reddish coloured best bitter from Nottingham based Castle Rock Brewery. It is a good start to a trip where there will be a modest number of ales to taste.

It is very unlike me to choose calves liver but I really have made a great choice. It has been seared and then served with Lyonaisse potatoes, bacon and a red wine jus. The calves liver is very tender and the jus is full of flavour. Rock has the plaice goujons with minted pea purée and french fries.

Everything was freshly cooked and the attentive and caring service was excellent. A good place to stop for food if you are travelling up or down the M1!

Wade and Rock are a UK based couple who love good food and wildlife and love travelling to find it. Wade does most, but not all, of the writing and the photography. Rock shares the eating experience and tells Wade when planned posts fall short on sense or style or taste. In the opinion of Wade (and many of our friends) she is also a fabulous baker. WadeandRockandFood mainly consists of reviews of restaurants and pubs we have recently visited. WadeandRockandWildlife and WadeandRockandPlaces are mostly photoblogs.
